KEDROS was founded in 1954 by Nikos and Nana Kallianessi, who were succeeded by Katya Lembessi and Evangelos Papathanassopoulos in 1985.

KEDROS has been built around the elite of modern Greek writers, such as Yiannis Ritsos, Kostas Varnalis, Stratis Tsirkas, Melpo Axioti, Aris Alexandrou, Tassos Livaditis and Dido Sotiriou, most of which have been translated in several languages.

KEDROS’ list welcomed some of the best contemporary Greek writers of adult or children’s books: Titos Patrikios, Giorgos Ioannou, Giorgos Himonas, Alexandros Kotzias, Menis Koumantareas, Nikos Themelis, Evgenios Trivizas, Maro Douka, Sofia Zarabouka, Evgenia Fakinou, Kira Sinou and many more.

KEDROS’ translations from several languages introduced in Greece some of the major voices of the 20th century:

James Joyce, William Faulkner, J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, William Shakespeare, Anton Tchekhov, August Strindberg, Henrik Ibsen, Eugene Ionesco, Harold Pinter, T. S. Eliot, Sylvia Plath, Carlos Fuentes, Roland Barthes, Cornelius Castoriadis, Hannah Arendt, Jacques Le Goff, Jacques Lacan, Françoise Dolto, Noam Chomsky, Julia Kristeva, Desmond Morris, Patrick Leigh Fermor and many more.

Always keeping an open mind, we are constantly seeking the voices of tomorrow.
