Ο ποιητής και πεζογράφος Γιώργος Ιωάννου (1927-1985) γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Οι γονείς του ήταν πρόσφυγες από την Ανατολική Θράκη (Ραιδεστός-Κεσσάνη).
